The Netherlands is a tolerant nation in which all the major religions are represented. Every individual has the right to change his or her religion and is free to practise his religion or conviction.
In this country, about 31% practises the Roman Catholic religion, 20% Protestantism and 5,5% is Muslim. Of the Dutch people, 2.5% has another conviction and 41% claims to practise no religion or to have no conviction.
In no other Dutch province the percentage of catholics is as high as in Limburg. While in other - more nothern - provinces the non-catholics are in the majority, three quarters of the people living in Limburg is catholic. However, specific religions barely play a role in social life anymore.
