The R&D campus in Sittard-Geleen is being developed to the full. Chemelot is more than just a business park, it is a unique chemicals and materials community that ensures accelerated business growth via an open exchange of ideas.

Chemelot has been designed on the basis of a single central idea: bringing together knowledge and skills and applying them within a flexible community of small and large chemical companies in order to effect a drastic change in how the chemical industry is perceived. DSM, Chemelot, Maastricht University, the Province of Limburg and the Municipality of Sittard-Geleen are actively involved in this community.

The ideas developed are based on creating intensive links between education/knowledge workers and the established business community and the resulting spin-off at Chemelot. Maastricht University is considering establishing a centre near Chemelot in order to facilitate its research ambitions with regard to food & nutrition and sports medicine in particular. Companies that are interested in cooperation, research and development relating to the above product lines are very welcome at the Research and Business Campus in Sittard-Geleen. Welcoming foreign knowledge workers (expats) is an important objective, as is stimulating relations between education and the labour market.
