Learning and development in an international region

Studying in the Maastricht Region means learning within an international community where different perspectives enrich one another. Students and professionals can develop their skills here at various levels and across a wide range of disciplines. A defining feature is the link to the real world. Knowledge institutions collaborate with businesses, public authorities and civil society organisations to address current issues. There is also increasing collaboration across national and educational boundaries. This creates an environment in which learning does not stop after graduation, but continues throughout your career.

From vocational education to university

The region offers education at various levels and across a wide range of disciplines. Maastricht University provides academic education and research across six faculties, ranging from health, psychology and engineering to economics, law and social sciences. The university is renowned for its small-scale, problem-based teaching with an international focus.

Zuyd University of Applied Sciences offers degree programmes in areas including healthcare, engineering, economics, the arts, international business and ICT. Maastricht is home, for example, to the Hotel Management School, the Conservatoire, the Theatre Academy and art courses. VISTA College, Yuverta and the Open University also contribute to the wide range of educational opportunities in the region.

Knowledge institutions

An international knowledge network

Knowledge and education in the Maastricht Region have a strong international and European focus. In addition to educational institutions, various international knowledge organisations are based here. For example, UNU-MERIT brings the knowledge and policy issues of the United Nations to Maastricht. EIPA focuses on knowledge development for professionals in European public administration, ECDPM on international cooperation and European policy, and the European Journalism Centre on the development of journalism and the media.

United World College Maastricht also contributes to the region’s international character, with students from over a hundred countries. The Jan van Eyck Academy attracts artists, designers, curators, writers and other creators and thinkers from all over the world to Maastricht. Together, these organisations foster an environment where different nationalities, disciplines and perspectives come together.
