With around 14,000 international students each year and more than 27,000 international residents, it is fair to say that the Maastricht Region offers many opportunities. Not only for international talent, but also for employers. Regulations in the Netherlands offer various options for recruiting international talent, utilising the best talent and investing in highly educated graduates. The Expat Centre Maastricht Region is the expert that employers (both established companies and start-ups) can turn to for advice and the latest developments.

Fast-track procedure for EU citizens

The Expat Centre Maastricht Region offers a unique fast-track procedure to register employees from the EU/EEA who are moving to the Netherlands (with or without family members) as highly skilled migrants, researchers or artists. To be eligible for this fast-track registration, the employer must be registered with the Immigration and Naturalisation Service as an authorised sponsor.

Fast-track procedure for non-EU citizens

The Netherlands welcomes international talent and recognises their contribution and impact on Dutch society and industry. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) also offers the Fast Track procedure to non-EU residents.

National collaboration

Since 2023, South Limburg (the Maastricht Region from an international perspective) has been a partner of the national Talent Coalition: an alliance of regions in the Netherlands which, since 2017, has focused all its activities on attracting and retaining highly qualified international STEM talent (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The Talent Coalition is co-ordinated by the Netherlands Point of Entry, part of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This includes an international job portal for the Netherlands.
